Company Description

Our client is a commercial real estate company, operating for more than 65 years in all aspects of the industry, including retail, office, multifamily and mixed-use development, tenant leasing, property management and brokerage services.  The company is based in Charlotte, NC with a portfolio of 2,400 multifamily units and 4M square feet of commercial properties under management across the Southeast.

Position Overview

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) will report directly to ownership and serve as the senior operating executive responsible for leading the firm’s day-to-day operations.  This individual will partner with ownership on long-range strategic planning and growth initiatives, setting a strategic course for the company.  The scope of this position includes oversight of the company’s multiple lines of business, including financial planning and management of the Executive team. The chosen leader will set clear goals and priorities for the teams and ensure they have the resources necessary to meet their goals.   • JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Oversee day-to-day operations of Commercial and Multifamily Development and Property Services, including Management and Leasing, teams. 
  • Work directly with ownership to set a long-term strategy for the years ahead.
  • Prepare and present an annual budget to ownership, along with a clear set of priorities for the upcoming year.
  • Support the leadership team in continually improving upon performance and processes. 
  • Build and maintain a strong leadership team through relationship-building, performance management, responsiveness, and support. 
  • Focus on providing a high-quality experience for tenants and residents, as well as team members. 
  • Set an example for team members, clients, tenants, and residents, knowing the company values teamwork, integrity, quality service, and empathy, with a long-term focus.
  • Lead the effort to grow and expand the company’s third-party management business without compromising service quality.
  • Act as the face of the company for many of its third-party clients.   
  • Work with team leaders to set priorities and goals, make recommendations on fee structures, and identify the personnel needs. 
  • Oversee the company’s financials.  The aim is to grow, but with a strong foundation (profits and cash).
  • Oversee operational technology and systems, in coordination with the Technology Committee; ensure the most efficient and useful tools are in place for all lines of business.
  • Coordinate risk management and vendor/contract oversight with the CFO.
  • Help recruit, develop, and retain quality team members.
  • Review and improve the training, performance management, succession planning, and development of team members.

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Significant experience building and overseeing a high performing team, preferably in multifamily property management
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to complete work with critical time schedules
  • Proficiency in computer applications, such as Microsoft Office software products and Yardi
